Kindergarten taught by Mrs. Shaw
“Their full day kindergarten program is top notch! Mrs. Shaw is a wonderful, kind, patient teacher and our foster kids went from not knowing their letters to reading by the end of the school year. This program has given them a head start and I have no doubt they will excel in public school with such a great foundation.”

Our kindergarten class, taught by Mrs. Shaw, is intended to provide a foundation for success. Using structure and routine, we seek to help our students develop excellent school behaviors that, in turn, support a positive learning experience. Our day consists of academic instruction in math, phonics and reading, Bible stories and memorization, science, and social studies. Throughout each week, we also delve into enrichment activities in classical and hands-on art, physical education, music studies, and technology. Our goal is to raise up children that have a love for learning, Jesus, and others.
Kindergarten Curriculum
Mathematics – Saxon Math 1
To master mathematics, students need to build on prior learning—what new concepts they can learn depends on which concepts they already know. Saxon Math™ provides a learning structure proven to advance students steadily and assuredly to higher levels of understanding. In Saxon Math, concepts from every math strand are woven together and connected throughout the year. Clear instruction and hands-on activities engage all learners.
Phonics/Reading – Open Court 1
SRA Open Court Reading is a comprehensive reading, writing, and language arts curriculum that provides an explicit, systematic approach to teaching. Through engaging resources, activities, and materials, students are able to develop critical reading and writing strategies and skills needed for success. Research shows that phonics instruction has to be systematic if it is to work. It cannot start somewhere in the middle or be random or haphazard in approach. Open Court Phonics systematically teaches letter knowledge and phonemic awareness, then sound/spellings. It then offers direct instruction in blending all the sounds in words. This helps to build fluency, the key to comprehension, using decodable books. Then it connects spelling to phonics through dictation and spelling activities. The goal of all the instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics is to provide children with the tools they need to read with fluency. Phonics skills enable children to get beyond the distractions and mechanics of decoding words to focus on the goal of reading – comprehension.
Science/Social Studies
Little Miracles Kindergarten uses a variety of thematic studies throughout the year to teach science and social studies. We do science experiments and use classical literature to round out our subjects.
Classical Art and Music
The students are exposed to various classical art pieces. They learn about the use of various lines, colors, and materials to express themselves. And they learn about rhythmic patterns, melody, and harmony by exploring a variety of classical music selections.
Bible Education
Bible stories are taught daily with our older students. Bible education is vastly important as it instills proper moral behavior, develops a sense of community and moral responsibility within each child, and ultimately gives the child a foundation in the Word of God and a love for Jesus. In Kindergarten, the students will memorize scripture and learn about the Bible. We learn about major Old Testament stories in the beginning of the year. After Christmas, we dive into the Life of Christ, and New Testament stories.
